Job Description

The purchaser is required to predict the supply requirements and plan for optimal stocks to be on hand, they are at all times expected to be up-to-date with the material requirements of the shipping division and the availability of quality materials in the markets to meet the division?s exact requirements. In addition, they will offer technical assistance to the vessel manager in monitoring shipboard operations and ship management support to assigned vessels.Experience in shipping Procurement & logistics is a must preferably Bulk Carriers.Responsibilities & dutiesPURCHASING?Source, evaluate and control suppliers both locally and overseas, capable of fulfilling the diverse needs of the Company on the quality of materials, delivery times, and cost. ?Negotiate the best possible terms for the Company with all suppliers together with the Technical department.?Conduct value analysis of purchases to ensure the Company benefits from the best terms available.?Conduct evaluations of suppliers based on feedback and take action to remove or add them to the Company?s approved list of suppliers.?Ensure stock-taking is done regularly to optimize inventory and order items in good time.?Conduct spot checks as necessary to ensure purchasing guidelines are being followed.?Keep the accounts department up to date on payment requirements and spot-verify that payments being made against purchases are accurate and timely.?Contribute to Health, Safety, and Environmental improvement within areas of control.?Ensure timely processing of invoices?Carry out supplier evaluations?Keep a record of feedback from supplied goods and suppliers from the vessel?Inform vessel managers on the budget status of vessels?Book invoices in PAL for onward payment process by accountsProfessional experience?Preferably a degree/diploma holder in the technical field with exposure to commercial activities.?A good knowledge of the market and of marine suppliers globally.?A good knowledge of technical terminology particularly within the marine environment.?At least 5 years? experience in a similar position in an industrial or marine environment.?Must be computer literate, with good communication skills and the ability to interface with both technical and non-technical personnel.
