Job Description

Works under partial supervision of the senior medical physicists for all aspects of radiotherapy physics, diagnostic radiology physics and radiation protection. Experience :- Required: Upon completion of Internship. Desired: N.A. Educational Qualification: Required: BSc degree in Physical Science from an accredited program or equivalent. Desired: N.A. To ensure all radiation safety precautions are maintained throughout the treatment and that staff and patients are informed of all necessary precautions to take during treatment in the hospital and when they go home. To sit as a member on any committee to which being nominated. To evaluate subordinate staff performance (as required). Provides in-service training for Radiologists, radiographers, technicians, nursing staff others. To lecture to Medical students and may be required to lecture on courses on radiation protection (as required) Undertakes to accept for instruction University students who may be required to study in the Medical physics department. The post holder will be required to comply with and ensure that all staff working under his/her supervision complies with Health and Safety at Work policies for the areas in which work is being undertaken. To assist in the quality assurance of diagnostic radiology equipment. To advice on the planning and replacement of equipment needed in radiotherapy to perform treatment planning and in-vivo dosimetry. To consult with the radiologists in developing effective imaging techniques for radiotherapy planning techniques. To develop the new instruments and data analysis approaches for the next generation of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. To be a member of the multidisciplinary clinical teams involved in the provision of health care for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Accountabilities Will be required to oversee equipment operation, radiation safety and protection of staff, patients and carers. Teaching and training of junior scientists and medical staff, advanced IT and computing applications. Troubleshooting of artefacts or abnormal appearances in scans.
