Job Description

Under the supervision of the REACH Team Leader, REACH Data Specialist and Assessment Officers, the Data Officer will be responsible for managing data-related processes in coordination with Assessment Officers and the GIS team. The Data Officer will be responsible for working on data-related activity for sectoral and inter-sectoral assessments and monitoring systems. Regular duties will include data entry, data cleaning, designing KOBO tools, running and troubleshooting data cleaning and analysis scripts in R, and updating static outputs (maps) and other interactive outputs (dashboards). In addition, the Data Officer is expected to periodically support with translation and ad-hoc partner training related to data processing activities and contribute to the REACH Yemen team in terms of delivering high-quality outputs.ObjectivesObjective 1: supporting research design and data collection, and data quality assuranceThe Data Officer is responsible for supporting research design and data collection activities with technical expertise, monitoring and quality control. They will develop KoBo tools for data collection, R scripts for data cleaning and processing, and any other technical solutions as needed. The Data Officer will work with the Assessment Officers within the unit to ensure that all data collection activities they carry out are in line with technical requirements set by IMPACT Initiatives. Additionally, the Data Officer will pro-actively contribute to the development of new technical standards and tools to support data collection.Objective 2: data analysis and innovationThe Data Officer will support the research teams with analysis of primary and secondary datasets. They will perform descriptive analyses, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression analyses. The Data Office will work pro-actively to design innovative solutions and detailed analysis plans to fill information gaps in the humanitarian response. Furthermore, they will develop R scripts to automate data analysis processes; and explore opportunities to use alternative data sources.Objective 3: developing information products and dashboardsThe Data Officer will collaborate with Assessment Officers within the unit to create information products and dashboards for public use with the collected data. The Data Officer will work pro-actively to design new ways of displaying information, based on the needs of Reach Yemen partners. The Data Officer is enthusiastic about the potential for data to shape humanitarian action, and about working with others to make this a reality.Objective 4: improving ways of workingThe Data Officer will work with the Data Specialist within REACH Yemen to improve ways of working across the Yemen team. The Data Officer will be expected to critically assess the existing data collection, analysis, and visualisation practices within REACH Yemen and propose and develop new ways of working where relevant.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe REACH Data Officer is responsible for completing the following tasks:úResearch design support: collaborate with Assessment Officers to ensure that research design follows best practices for data quality and analysis.úData collection support: providing technical support to data collection and processing.úData quality assurance: supporting Assessment Officers with data checking and validation to ensure that the data collected in the unit is of the best quality it can be.úData analysis support: supporting Assessment Officers with data analysis and ensuring that they accurately represent data in their work.úTechnical tool development: in collaboration with the Data Specialist, developing new technical tools for use by the unit and the REACH Yemen team more broadly.úCreation of information products: with the rest of the unit, creating factsheets, dashboards, and other information products to share with the wider humanitarian community.úCreative problem solving: critically reviewing existing data processes within the unit and making improvements or developing new processes where relevant.
