Job Description

Action Against Hunger (ACF)˙is a leading humanitarian and development agency working to combat the causes of hunger and malnutrition in over 46 countries worldwide, in the fields of nutrition, food security and livelihoods, water sanitation and hygiene, and mental health and care practices. Eleven years into the Syrian conflict, more than 1.3 million Syrians have sought refuge in Jordan; 676,164 are registered refugees and approximately 80% live in non-camp settings. This influx of refugees has strained Jordans economy and resources, with Syrians often accepting worse working conditions and lower compensation than Jordanians and taking on low-skill, informal jobs in sectors such as in manufacturing, construction and agriculture. In 2022, Jordan had a 23% unemployment rate. For Syrian refugees, unemployment rates are significantly worse with 80% of Syrian refugees unemployed in 2021, up from 50% and 65% in 2019 and 2020.An internship at Action Against Hunger is a short-term, learning experience opportunity aimed atdeveloping the professional experience of aspiring humanitarian workers. In addition to developing astrong talent pool, the internship offers an opportunity to promote the work of Action Against Hungerand its humanitarian mandate. ACF is looking for its program in Jordan for˙Program Quality Intern.Workplace:˙˙Jordan - AmmanCore Functions & Responsibilities:An internship aims at developing the professional experience of aspiring humanitarian and development workers. As a member of the Programs Department, the intern is expected to gain knowledge and experience working on˙activities related to program quality, MEAL and project cycle management, supporting the Program Quality Manager on the following tasks:

  • Support in the preparation of a project cycle management guidelines
  • Support the administration of projects by collecting, reviewing, classifying and archiving project, MEAL and grants documentation in line with the Programs Archiving Guidelines
  • Assist in the planning and data collection for a gender analysis.˙
  • Other duties related to program quality and information management, as required.
Specific Responsibilities:1) Support the information management needs of the programs department and the implementation of high-quality project cycle management and tools
  • Working with the PQ Manager and heads of department, develop updated project cycle management guidelines, integrating updated tools and process guidance for MEAL plans, work plans, spending plans, procurement plans, recruitment plans, program SOPs.
  • Support the operationalization of the Program Archiving Guidelines. This includes updating and organizing filing systems, creating necessary filing trees, reviewing project files, identifying and following up on missing documentation.
  • Develop a˙tracker to reflect status of PCM tools across projects in the department.
  • Develop internal communication materials as required to socialize and rollout updated PCM and archiving guidelines.
2) Assist in the completion of a project gender analysis
  • Support in the completion of a literature review
  • Contribute to the design of data collection tools and updates based on technical feedback.
  • Support in data collection process including translation and piloting of tools, logistics for data collection, data cleaning and compilation.
  • Support in the planning for a findings validation workshop
3) Support the implementation of the learning strategy
  • Work closely with the communication intern to compile input for the learning mission strategy.
  • Support the data collection of success stories and most significant changes from the field.
4) Ensure adherence to Action Against Hunger gender requirements
  • Commit and comply with the organization?s gender, age, and diversity principles & policies (reference in the PE: working with people, communication)
  • Promote gender age and diversity principles through their daily activities.
Learning opportunities for the intern
  • General understanding of the humanitarian sector experience and the role of different humanitarian actors including international and national NGOs and local actors in the humanitarian context.
  • General understanding of the Action Against Hunger mission in Jordan.
  • Working experience in a multicultural environment.
The intern is also expected to strengthen his/her knowledge and understanding of Action Against Hunger implementation guidelines by reading project documents and related SoPs. The intern will respect ACF internal rules and regulations, by-laws, and policies, and will adhere to the Code of Conduct
