Job Description

  1. Perform initial examination e.g. visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, autorefraction and color vision.
  2. Determination of refractive state of the eyes and perform refraction for adult and children on referred patients e.g. autorefraction, subjective, objective, cyclorefraction, measuring spectacles, lens and refraction related tests.
  3. Assess and prescribe contact lens.
  4. Perform visual field examination with automated perimeter and manual on referred patients.
  5. Assess and investigate squint on referred patients e.g. orthoptic work-up and cyclo refraction, etc.
  6. Perform test and investigations requested by Ophthalmology Team ? OCT, HRT, Topography and doing photo for dilated and undilated patients.
  7. Perform Lasik work-up in complete manner i.e., VA with and without glasses, measuring spectacles, subjective and cyclorefraction, autorefraction before and after dilatation, PMT and pachymetry.
  8. Perform all mentioned tasks in OPD, inpatient wards/units and OR as needed.
  9. ?Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
  10. Participate and attend in all continuing department educational activities.
  11. ?Prescribe, supply fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
  12. Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
  13. Share actively in patient & family education in collaboration with all related other healthcare givers
  14. Provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.
  15. Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
  16. Consults with and refer patients to Ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.
  17. Complies with the standard laid by the approved International Accreditation standards and performs the duties necessary to support and achieve accreditation.
  18. Through chain of command and/or occurrence variance report, identifies any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the hospital or Standards of service for patients, employees or visitors and situation that put the patient, staffs, or visitors at risk of injury or other harm.
  19. ?Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee?s knowledge, managerial and leadership skills and abilities.
