Job Description

IntroductionThe Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise and monitor the research activities including data collection as well as maintain necessary records, create and sustain liaison with the relevant stakeholders for the smooth implementation of all necessary activities of the project. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • conduct interviews independently and write up detailed notes on interviews and observation visits
  • manage field work process to ensure effective use of time
  • facilitate meetings among the research team and junior research staff
  • train new junior staff (Lady Health Workers - LHWs / Community Health Workers - CHWs) in research / interviewing skills and proper data collection
  • visit different hospital areas to enrol patients in the research studies, after obtaining consents
  • liaison with admin regarding logistics for field/hospital work
  • develop and conduct regular trainings of LHWs and CHWs
  • provide supervision and support for approximately LHWs / CHWs liaising with their Supervisors.
  • raise wider community awareness on Child Health related issues based on prepared project activity guidelines
You should have:
  • a bachelors degree, Master?s will be preferably in Sociology, Psychology or equivalent
  • at least one year to two years of relevant experience
  • good interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
  • proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office
  • ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
  • ability to work effectively in teams and resilience to cope-up with work pressure
  • good report writing skills and willingness to work in the community settings and travel to field sites.
