Beirut, Lebanon: News director - Lebanon, Syria & Iraq - Associated PressJob Vacancy:Location:Beirut, LebanonThe Associated Press seeks an experienced journalist and newsroom leader to lead its coverage of Lebanon, Syria and Iraq as a news director, based in Beirut. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Middle East News Director, this newsroom leader will drive coverage that is comprehensive and quick, consistently breaks news and is a source of distinct, richly reported enterprise in a highly competitive news environment. This successful candidate is a strategic leader in the Middle East and will collaborate with AP?s regional and global news leadership to set and execute AP?s strategy for coverage of major stories in the region. This includes Lebanon?s financial meltdown, the aftermath of Syria?s civil war, signs of a resurgence of the Islamic State militant group, and Iraq?s struggle to maneuver between Iran and the West. Working with the Middle East News Director, this newsroom manager will tend to the safety of AP staff in a region scarred by long-running conflicts. The news director will build newsroom-to-newsroom relationships with AP customers and work in concert with APs Revenue and Products teams to meet client needs. The successful candidate must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.
