In recognition of its high quality and patient safety, the AKUH is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) as an Academic Medical Centre and its Clinical Laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for fast and accurate testing.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:

  • report and interpret all the tests performed in stat lab
  • perform procedures such as bone marrow aspirates and trephine biopsy, skin biopsy, throat and other swabs, nail clippings and any other interventional tests as per institutional policy
  • reduce patient/physicians? queries and complaints by investigating the root cause and taking preventive measures to avoid complaints in future
  • maintain quality assurance systems in the Stat Lab and report and coordinate with the main lab for internal quality control specimens
  • actively participate in departmental initiatives and quality audits pertaining to College of American Pathologists (CAP) and any other accreditation body
  • supervise and train technologists, trainee technologists and medical officers in various tests and procedures
  • arrange, monitor and ensure commissioning of any new test or services at the Stat Lab
  • identify new test requirements and validate the new lab tests by coordinating with the Section Head of respective discipline
  • ensure the availability of reagents and equipment in working condition to avoid the transfer of lab tests to main or any other stat labs without valid reason.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a minimum of FCPS in any discipline of Pathology, preferably in Hematology or Chemical Pathology or any other equivalent qualification
  • at least one year of relevant experience following post-graduation and completion of residency training
  • competence in laboratory procedures such as bone marrow, bone trephines, skin biopsies, FNCAs & others
  • knowledge and confidence in interpretation of laboratory reports
  • teaching skills and the ability to understand laboratory issues from the patients? perspective
  • ability to maintain continuous open and consistent communication with faculty, staff, patients and their families
  • ability to make decisions by weighing several factors and to develop solutions that addresses the root cause of the problem and prevent recurrence
  • ability to act quickly and address a crisis drawing on appropriate resources
  • excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills as well as patient care documentation skills
  • ability to effectively work in teams as well as independently.
