Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Registered Nurse (Patient Sampling), Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This is a platform trial that will evaluate multiple antiviral treatments for COVID-19. This randomised open label, controlled, group sequential adaptive platform trial, we will assess the performance of three distinct types of intervention relative to control (no treatment):˙ identify quantitative evidence of antiviral activity in patients with COVID-19 is required to justify phase 3 clinical trials of putative antivirals.˙This is a grant-funded contractual position.˙ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:˙

  • ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.˙
  • patient recruitment in the project, obtaining and filling patient consent & data form˙
  • collect of samples and phlebotomy for patients recruited following national guidelines in the study.˙
  • liaise between collaborating physicians, treatment centres and the PI
  • identify & ordering consumables required for research project
  • keep inventory of research material this includes chemical, reagents & plastic ware etc. communicate results of tests to the patients and for transport of samples from the study sites to AKUH
  • maintain inventory of supplies/PPE at field site˙˙
  • take transporting samples to Laboratory under controlled conditions˙
  • assist in monitoring the progress and record keeping of the project at site˙
  • any other duty or responsibility assigned by the reporting person˙˙˙˙˙˙
RequirementYou should have:˙
  • qualification at BScN˙
  • experience of 1-2 years˙˙
  • phlebotomy experience is preferred˙˙
  • good management skills including ability to work independently and manage resources effectively˙
  • good research skills˙˙
  • training & knowledge of Biosafety for working with infectious pathogens˙
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills˙
  • good English language competency (written and oral)˙
  • ability to work independently˙
