The development and expansion of educational and thematic research programmes in innovative and relevant basic and applied research will take AKU to the next level on the international scene while benefitting specific health care needs of Pakistan.The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences invites applications for the position of Trainee to carry out research work on the Higher Education Commission sponsored project Ref No. 20-16914/NRPU/R&D/HEC/2021 2021 entitled ?Genetic Epilepsies: identification of novel genes and mechanisms for intervention, prevention and implementation in the Pakistani health care system.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for:

  • providing assistance to the Principal Investigator in planning, managing and conducting research project by determining theoretical aspects of problem and selecting methods of approach recruiting study subjects; collecting clinical samples from AKUH and other healthcare facilities
  • tabulating and correlating data compiled in research and interpreting the results
  • conducting experiments, devising instrumentation and techniques to record and collect test results
  • preparing write ups of results, research manuscripts, presentations and grant proposals
  • providing assistance to students and lab staff in setting up and conducting laboratory sessions
  • performing other tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a BS/MBBS/BDS/MSc degree in medical or biological sciences from an HEC recognised or foreign university. Moreover, candidates who are Enrolled in MPhil program in medical or biological sciences in BBS, Aga Khan University, will be preferred˙
  • completed the course work for the First year of degree program
  • work knowledge and skills in laboratory techniques
  • excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • proven ability to work well with certain degree of autonomy and function successfully in a team environment˙
  • excellent organizational skills
  • ability to participate in the intellectual input of assigned research project
  • ability to be result oriented˙
  • ability to meet the deadlines.
This is a contractual position funded by the Higher Education Commission. The terms and conditions applicable are absolutely and expressly determined by the Higher Education Commission.
