Job Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the Reproductive Biology Lab, a newly established team within the Maternal and Child Health Division at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar. Our research focuses on the basic and translational aspects of reproductive biology. We aim to identify novel mechanisms regulating fertilization and early development using various model systems, including zebrafish, mice, and humans. Our ultimate goal is to translate basic science discoveries to develop novel tools for in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients. To this end, our group closely collaborates with the IVF program and the fertility specialists here at Sidra Medicine.Using multidisciplinary approaches, the selected candidate will carry out innovative research to discover novel mechanisms regulating fertilization and early embryo development in different model systems (zebrafish, mouse, and human). The ideal candidate will perform a wide range of experiments, which include:

  • Fish or mouse in vitro fertilization.
  • Basic molecular techniques (including and not limited to DNA/RNA extraction, PCRs, and Western Blot analyses).
  • Molecular cloning.
  • Expression of recombinant proteins in eukaryotic cell lines.
  • Genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic analyses of biological samples in collaboration with our core facilities.

  • Candidates with (or close to complete) a Ph.D. degree in life sciences (Molecular Biology or Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related fields).
  • Required hands-on experience with in-vitro molecular and cellular assays, including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), molecular cloning, western blotting, protein expression, purification, and cell culture. Basic statistics and data interpretation analysis.
  • Preferred previous experience working with those mentioned above or any animal model(s).
  • Preferred previous experience in any of the following: immunoprecipitation, in vitro RNA synthesis, siRNA/shRNA knockdown, CRISPR-mediated genome editing, gamete, and embryo manipulation (zebrafish, mouse, human, or others), genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics (protein).
  • A proven track record in their field of interest, evidenced by one or more publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • The candidate must possess proficiency in verbal and written communication (English).

The Research Branch is located at Sidra Hospitals Outpatient Clinic Building (OPC) and occupies two floors totaling 10,000M2 and smaller satellite laboratories throughout the Hospital.
