Job Description

The Senior Estimator will assist with the preparation of accurate estimates for the approved program, in accordance with the Clients requirements and following all project policies and procedures, to ensure timely completion of the most cost effective competitive and comprehensive tenders.

  • Ability to interpret specifications and standards and assess their impact on tender/project costs

  • Skill in accurate assessment of supplier and contractor quotes
  • Skill in document and record management process and procedures
  • Skill in identifying and modifying work processes, technology, and/or products
  • Skills in relevant computer software packages
  • Good knowledge of commonly used head contract conditions
  • Good knowledge of pre-contracts area
  • Good knowledge of Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems and their application to operational requirements
  • Good knowledge of compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements
  • Good knowledge of risk management procedures, processes and management tools
  • Good knowledge and experience of auditing compliance and reporting procedures and processes
  • Be part of an effective and professional estimating team, capable of high standards of performance in which individuals are held accountable to deliver against set objectives and are rewarded accordingly
  • Compliance with the Project policies, procedures, manuals and business systems and ensure relevant Estimating standards and legislative requirements have been applied and met
Operational Delivery:
  • Participate as a member of an effective and productive high quality team to support the bid and provide strategic advantage over the competition
  • Keep up to date with current construction methods, materials and design solutions
  • Ensure clear understanding of role purpose and accountabilities, supported by a current position description aligned with the Projects objectives
  • Actively contribute to the strategic and operational development, growth and profitability of the Project
  • Support the team to ensure any budgetary compliances are met
  • Conduct cost benefit analysis for areas of cost as applicable to role
  • Collaborate with other Project units and Strategic Projects to optimise the outcomes of Pre-contract activities tender led by others
  • Obtain the maximum coverage of reliable suppliers and subcontractors
  • Leading in collecting cost and productivity data from assigned projects and ensure that it is recoded and maintained in the appropriate knowledge capture databases
  • Maintain contact with the project through the delivery phase and collect cost and productivity data from projects and ensure that this information is recorded and maintained in the appropriate knowledge capture databases as directed

Qualifications:Tertiary or Trade qualifications in Construction, Engineering, Science, Quantity Surveying and/or Project/Construction Management Experience:
  • +10 years experience in construction tendering or project delivery
  • Estimating experience desirable
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
  • Interpreting specifications and standards & assess the impact on project cost
  • Accuracy on assessment of supplier and contract quotes
  • Skills in relevant computer software packages
