College CounselorHigh School ú Khaitan, Kuwait TITLE: COLLEGE COUNSELORREPORTS TO: PRINCIPALPrimary Purpose:The High School College Counselors provide students with guidance and support in dealing with an array of issues including academics, college applications and guidance, scheduling, and career planning.Responsibilities:Advises and counsels students regarding academic, scheduling, career and college planning.Remains universally accessible and makes an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible.Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.Teaches College preparatory classes and provides college and career counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents.Consults facilitates and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student?s academic and educational needs and abilities.Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures, and advised on suitable academic tracks.Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.Evaluating students? abilities and interests through aptitude assessments, interviews, and individual planning.Identifying issues that affect school performance, such as poor classroom attendance rates.Working with students to develop skills, such as organizational and time management abilities and effective study habits.Helping students create a plan to achieve academic, career and collegiate goals.Assists HS administration in scheduling and roster compilation. Adjusts student schedules according to needs and directives.Assists HS administration in advanced program organization and planning.Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students succeed.Teaching students and school staff about specific topics, such as bullying, drug abuse, and planning for college or careers after graduation.Maintaining records as required.Qualifications:Master?s Degree in Counseling/Guidance, Education, or Social Work if availableMinimum of 2 years of school or collegiate counseling or teaching experienceKnowledge of multiple counseling approachesFamiliarity with online learning platformsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsEmpathy and sensitivity to others needsStrong interpersonal skillsAbout American Baccalaureate School:ABS is a private, non?-profit school offering an American-based curriculum including a wide variety of advanced courses, and a college preparatory program, guiding students to become independent, intellectual global citizens.
