Job Description

Senior Rehabilitation Therapist AssistntBasic FunctionSenior Rehabilitation Therapist Assistant provides a complex range of prescribed/delegated treatment to challenging patients with physical, cognitive or psychological limitations arising from diseases, injury or conditions occurring throughout the life span thus helping the patient achieve a fulfilling and satisfying life. The incumbent effectively manages their own workload and schedule collaborating with multiple stakeholders to managing multiple job responsibilities within acceptable standards Practices within predictable and normally specialized contexts i.e. implementing programs of care/care packages. Works in an ethical, safe and effective manner. Assess patients safety and response to interventions providing timely feedback to delegating staff. Perform job tasks to assist with efficient workflow. Work is delegated and supervised by multiple Rehabilitation therapists, guidance and support provided through supervision/mentorship if requiredInfluences: Aids in timely care delivery and continuity of care. Impacting waitlist reduction by providing therapeutic services as delegated by the therapist. Aids the therapist through their teaching of other health care providers and providing psychosocial support for patients/families. Independently preforms weekly safety checks on electrotherapy equipment and monthly unit safety checklist.Practices according to professional codes, JHAH, JCI, and CBAHI policies and procedures.ScopePractices within John Hopkins Aramco Healthcare Specialized Therapy and Clinical Services Department Dhahran, Al Hasa, Udhailiyah, Ras Tanura and Abqaiq according to professional codes and defines organizational policies and procedures and advances work practices.Administers prescribed treatment plan to patient in a safe and effective manner, monitors patients response to treatment and advances treatment programs with minimal guidance of the referring therapist. Independently carries out routine/complex tasks to support operations such as weekly machine checking, processing special benefit items. Co-treats with staff as required. Ensure optimal schedule utilization.Position reports to the professional clinical staff on team who provides work direction with occasional guidance and support as needed.Incumbent is responsible for recording, and evaluating the patients responses and progress throughout therapy.Position gives feedback to referring therapist. Reports to and receives guidance from the senior professional staff and RSD Supervisor.Principal ContactsINTERNAL: Daily with professional staff who provides work direction and occasional guidance and support, Physicians / Surgeons, nurses and other medical staff members to coordinate the rehabilitation program. Daily reception and colleagues. Daily with all levels of Company employees and their dependents as patients.EXTERNAL: Occasionally with other company employees during outreach activities and hospital surveys or with outside medical professionals visiting JHAHPrincipal DutiesProvides assigned services with minimal guidance and support, to adult and/or pediatric in and/or out patients with a range of physical and psychiatric illnesses, impairments and disabilities in accordance with clinicians ordersASSESSMENT:

  • Performs patient re-assessment.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and modifies reports outcomes to referring therapist
  • Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and modifies treatment with guidance from the referring therapist to achieve goals.
  • Assess machinery is working correctly
  • Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, caregiver or significant other and provides education to meet those needs or discusses with the referring therapist
PLANNING:
  • Prioritizes and manages patients and assists with scheduling.
  • Prioritizes and manages varying assigned work roles and responsibilities
  • Plans space and equipment needs to deliver therapy interventions in accordance with clinicians orders
IMPLEMENTATION/INTERVENTIONS:
  • Provides intervention in accordance with clinicians orders and established plan of care. Intervention can be individual sessions or within groups, as appropriate including but not limited to electrotherapy, cryotherapy, exercise, gait training issuing of drop-in items
  • Provides feedback to referring therapist pertaining to patient current condition and care in a timely manner
  • Assists therapists in
  1. Fabrication of splints as required.
  2. Measurement of special benefit items, burn and vascular pressure garments as required.
  • Documenting education in the patient teaching record
  • For each patient treated, documents in the electronic health record SOAP format: Progress notes in accordance with REH-6
  • Provides patient appointments in accordance to treatment plan
  • Supports patient meeting functional goals in collaboration with the patient and therapist
EVALUATION:
  • Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and communicates with the referring therapist, patient, family, caregivers, significant other and members of the healthcare team to promote maximum benefit of care and rehabilitation
  • Evaluates therapy equipment to ensure operational
  • Identifies barriers to learning and goal achievement discusses with referring therapist
Principal Duties (contd)PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONSPerforms other duties with guidance and support as assigned to promote the overall effectiveness of the department. These duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Communicates with referring therapist patient, family, caregivers, and other members of the healthcare team to promote maximum benefit of care and rehabilitation i.e. regarding patient response to treatment interventions, barriers to learning
  • Leads individual patient treatment sessions for patients with similar impairments and/or psychological problems.
  • Presents a positive image of JHAH through professional appearance and behavior
  • Treats all customers with courtesy, respect and caring behaviors
  • Responds to customer concerns in a timely manner i.e. answers bell, assist patient who are lost in the hospital, respond to nurses calls
  • Maintains confidentiality by choosing the appropriate person, time and place for patient related discussions
  • Assures patient comfort and dignity at all times
  • Proactive in requesting support and guidance to assist patient care, guided learning and general concerns
  • Performs evidence based literature searches with guidance and support
  • Contributes to the in servicing of co-workers and/or other health care professionals.
  • Demonstrates own duties to new or less experienced employees
  • Supports unit culture of safety and quality through participation in clinical audits, peer review, compliance with yearly safety requirements, development activities and more as required and/or directed
  • Meets professional competency requires for assigned role
  • Familiarizes self with new techniques or equipment as required and assists with implementation as applicable.
  • Works within the framework of signed competencies
  • Shares ideas to improve work flow and practice
  • Seeks opportunities to advance competency and professional judgment in work roles
  • Frequently checks for and reads all communication/minutes
  • Participates in outreach activities including health exhibitions, MDF presentation.
  • Participates in lifelong learning in accordance with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Saudi Commission for Health Specialties
Education
  • Completion of 12 years education including high school and an accredited two year Associate Degree Program OR
  • 3 year accredited Diploma in Rehabilitation therapy.
  • Completed program is from an accredited institution recognized by JHAH.
ExperienceFive years minimum clinical job experience following licensure/registration in the country of origin.Certifications/Other requirements as applicable
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Current licensure.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Spoken Arabic desirable.
  • Computer proficiency required, Microsoft office applications preferred.
