Histology and Imaging Core Technician | |Position DetailsPosition Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Research Position Title Histology and Imaging Core Technician Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Biddeford, ME Description The Histology and Imaging Core, at the University of New England, is looking for a research technician. The Core is affiliated with the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE ) in the Study of Pain and Sensory Function, a highly collaborative group of researchers with diverse expertise. The Core provides UNE and the greater research community access to specialized instrumentation related to tissue processing, sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy. The Core also offers expertise and training related to image analysis. This position will assist the Core manager in processing tissue samples and readying them for routine and special stains, as well as utilizing brightfield & epifluorescence microscopy/imaging. Responsibilities >Primary* Trim, process, embed and section tissue (paraffin and cryosections)* Stain tissue with routine and special stains* Perform immunohistochemical staining and troubleshooting* Utilize light microscopy (brightfield, widefield, confocal) to obtain images for analysis* Prepare reagents and standards according to lab SOPs* Oversee maintenance & upkeep of laboratory equipment* Maintain complete and accurate logs containing methodological details* Maintain laboratory in a clean and safe fashion* Perform other related duties as assigned* Help to train/teach/supervise core users OTHER * Understands and complies with MSDS and HAZCOM procedures and policies as part of UNE?s comprehensive OSHA compliance program.* Understands and complies with OSHA?s blood borne pathogen standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and chapter 8 of the University of New England safety manual* Understands and complies with OSHA?s requirements (29 CFR 1910) for personal protective equipment (PPE ) as defined by the university?s chemical hygiene officers, the environmental health and safety coordinator (EHSC ), the supervisor and chapter 17 of the University of New England safety manual* Understands and complies with RCRA standards. Successfully completes initial training for hazardous waste handling within 90 days of the date of hire.* Completes University new employee orientation and sexual harassment training within 30 days of the date of hire.* Understands and complies with the University of New England Safety Manual. Qualifications The applicant must have a Bachelor?s Degree in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related field, with prior lab experience greatly preferred. Incumbent must work with and communicate with a number of different faculty/ staff/ and students across UNE . This position will require involvement on a number of different projects. The ideal incumbent will have efficient organizational and time management skills to prioritize a number of different tasks.
