  • NEOM is focused on becoming a pre-eminent global location for establishing new technologies and associated industries. This development will encompass many future-facing sectors of activity spanning from education, through health and well-being, the digital world, energy, food, and water, to creative industries, tourism, and sport (https://www.neom.com/en-us). It will inspire Research and Innovation (R&I) programs that are international in scope and characterized by their excellence and topicality.
  • The Education, Research, and Innovation (ERI) Foundation (ERIF) is one of the four pillars of the NEOM ERI Sector, alongside EC 12 Education, NEOM U, and the Talent Academy. Supporting the development of the Research & Innovation Programs at NEOM offers a singular opportunity for an experienced grant management professional to be involved from the start in one of the worlds most ambitious projects.
  • The ERIFs initial flagship program comprises Applied Research Institutes that bridge the gap between academic and industrial activities in key global challenge areas of strategic importance to NEOM. Two Applied Research Institutes are underway, in Hydrogen and e-Fuels and in Ocean Science and Solutions.
  • In addition, the ERIF will establish a suite of shared research infrastructure facilities that will be widely accessible to users from NEOM U, the Applied Research Institutes, Talent Academy, NEOM sectors, start-ups, SMEs, international corporations and institutions, and government agencies. ERIF will further launch Research Initiatives focused on NEOM-relevant global themes, an Academy of International Fellows to engage the global ERI community with the NEOM region and its R&I activities, and a competitive Grant Funding Program.
  • Taken together, this will help build the R&I ecosystem, in close collaboration with the NEOM sectors and regions, by supporting students, researchers, innovators, faculty, entrepreneurs, investors, and companies.
  • The Manager of Research Awards will be involved in establishing and managing the research award process for sponsored research activities for the ERIF (i.e., ERIF ARIs, NEOM U, NEOM Sectors, and NEOM subsidiaries). This role is crucial in the ERIFs establishment of an R&I ecosystem that enables Principal Investigators, Researchers, Entrepreneurs, and Start-Ups.
Key Accountabilities & ActivitiesStakeholder management
  • Serve as liaison between sponsors, partner institutions, PIs, researchers, and ERIF stakeholders for research awards-related matters including proposal requirements, contract review and negotiations, and awards management.
  • Collaborate with PIs, researchers, and stakeholders in proposal and budget development to ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and sponsor requirements.
  • Oversee the administration of sponsored research activities including proposal and budget reviews, approval process, proposal submissions, award compliance, and financial monitoring and management of awards.
  • Review contractual agreements, and facilitate the negotiation of terms and conditions, manage relationships with third parties for the lifetime of the awards.
  • Serve as a resource for PIs, ARIs, researchers, ERI staff, and administration to obtain information or clarification on accurate standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Major contributor to the development of strong policies and standard operating procedures for pre- and post-award management under the ERIF responsibilities.
  • Stay updated on regulations and requirements related to sponsored research and collaborate with stakeholders to keep policies and procedures current and promote awareness of research compliance and best practices for the administration of awards.
  • Participate in the development and dissemination of grant management training and materials; create and maintain effective outreach and support mechanisms. Coordinate and participate in developing and implementing training offerings to the R&I eco-system.
  • A major contributor to the development, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions effectively enabling management of the proposals, awards, and financial monitoring and oversight hereof.
  • Process grants statistical and financial information and produce reports; communicate and distribute reports to management and executive leadership, ERI financial operations, ARIs, and PIs.
Background, Skills & Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of experience required in grant and contract management.
  • Proficiency in financial management of grants.
  • Knowledge of research compliance regulations and ethical considerations.
  • Proficiency in SAP and SAP grant management or similar financial grant management solutions
  • Proficiency in research administration solutions
  • Demonstrated flexibility, mature judgment, integrity, and ability to manage complex situations.
  • Experience with people management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in delivering/facilitating training courses, in-person and online, is desirable.
  • An orientation toward self-starting, proactive anticipation of team needs, and creative problem-solving.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Bachelors in research administration, business, or law preferred
